Here's something neat to see this weekend before you watch the OPP Golden Helmets. It's a display of a 1977 Police Special Harley-Davidson and a 1979 Chevy Caprice in the centre court of Northgate, Thursday to Sunday during store hours. I'm told the bike was once stolen and chopped up. When it was discovered it underwent a complete restoration and now calls the OPP Museum in Orillia home. Look carefully at the picture below and you'll notice …

The OPP Golden Helmets are coming to town! I've seen these cops ride a few times and it's a great (and free) show. It's called "A Century of Service" presented by Knights of Columbus 1007. It promises an "action-packed celebration" featuring performances by the OPP Golden Helmets and the Rorab Shrine Club Cycle, Hillbilly & Klown Unit, and North Bay Pipes and Drums. It takes place in the Urban Planet parking lot at Northgate. Show …

Here’s a local ride I like to take if I’m short on time. It’s rural and beautiful and takes about 40 minutes at a leisurely pace. Timmie’s on Pinewood Park Drive is a good starting point, with lots of parking if you have organized a few buddies to ride with. Turn left, past Cascades Casino. I dropped in last month and won $179. I rarely gamble at the casino itself but have often eaten at the restaurant called Match Eatery and I recommend …

What do Triumph motorcycles and Donald Trump have in common? Last week I was out shopping and I noticed a few people giving me the stink eye. I thought it must be the result of something I wrote...I've had people unhappy with me before! Later that morning I had a medical appointment, and while I sat waiting, I noticed a similar reaction from the office staff. Again, odd... I was shown into the examination room, and took off my jacket waiting …

After the weather caused a delay from Sunday to Monday, The “Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride” took place this past weekend. Half a dozen bikes, mostly vintage, entered, raising $5,127 locally. The ride left the Callander lookout, along Lakeshore Drive to the waterfront and back in chilly but dry weather. A strong north wind added to the uncooperative weather, reports my friend Bill Carswell, who also participated in the ride. The event ended …

If you are looking for something a little different from riding the roads around North Bay, consider this. Friday was a beautiful riding day and a couple of friends invited me for a toot around West Nipissing, not an area I normally ride. The company and weather were great and the roads are all in excellent condition. It took us about four hours at a leisurely pace to visit places like Noelville, St. Charles, River Valley, and Sturgeon Falls. …

Dear Dapper Riders, DGR North Bay 2025! Unfortunately, due to the adverse weather conditions expected for Sunday 18th which would not allow the event to take place safely, we have decided to postpone the event to May 19, start time of 11am , hopefully warmer with sun. The plans for the day will remain unchanged at this stage, but we will take care of updating you in case there are any changes. Stay safe this weekend, and we look …

If you are looking for the first charity ride of the season the Local Distinguished Gentlemen Ride is set to fundraise for prostate cancer research on Sunday, I don't have all the details but I believe the group is leaving from the Callander Legion on Sunday at 10. I'll update with details when I get them. It's the world’s largest motorcycling charity event and is back in North Bay after its inaugural event last year, which raised over …

Friends, a colleague of mine at a BayToday sister publication called The Niagara on the Lake Local, wrote a Mother's Day column about a much-loved family member. Mike Balsom's sister rode a Harley, and a routine ride last year ended in tragedy, I found it touching. I hope you do too. ----- May is Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month, as declared by the Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada. I took little notice of that fact until May …

Over the winter a bunch of us were discussing winter battery care. I'm old school and got teased for taking mine out, bringing it into my house and hooking it up to a trickle charger. Now that a lot of us are installing/charging our batteries for spring rides I decided to get the definitive word from one of the premier battery makers...Yuasa. Battery Freezing Caring for your motorcycle's battery over the winter months is simple if these two …

It's "Motorcycle Safety Week" in Ontario and is a good opportunity for us to reflect on how we can protect ourselves and our loved ones. I was saddened to read the news that last year's 57 motorcyclist deaths on OPP-patrolled roads were the highest in 20 years. Excessive speed, losing control, failing to yield the right of way, improper passing and driver inattention were the leading causes. I don't have the answer. I have been involved …

Hi everyone. With the recent rain washing the salt off the roads I'm seeing lots of us charging batteries and getting out for our first rides of the season. Still lots of gravel and debris on area roadways so be careful. My name is Jeff Turl and I'll be moderating this page. I invite any riders of two or three-wheeled motorized vehicles to join me in keeping this site active. If you don't own a bike, but are interested in motorcycling, we …
