More municipalities are increasing regulations on fireworks. Yesterday, we published a story on Mattawa’s recent decision to ban the sale of fireworks within the municipality. I'm going to suggest something a little radical here. The local Chamber of Commerce should stop sponsoring TV studio debates. Bring back public debates where the public is invited to attend. Cogeco can still tape and broadcast the event, but having a closed debate in a TV studio is proving bad for our democratic process. National Canadian Film Day is tomorrow, and local horror film festival Bay of Blood is hosting a free screening of Massacre at Femur Creek. Of all the homeless encampment-related stories I have done, this one seems to have captured the most emotion. Our group of sources in this neighbourhood have openly admitted they do not feel safe in their neighbourhood. Before I close the book on the provincial election, I'd like to express my disappointment as a reporter with the campaigns of the PCs, Liberals, and NDP. Voter turnout was again under 50% and those parties are partially to blame. While democracy is under pressure, all three let us down. Vic Fedeli should have welcomed all debates.
