For both cats and dogs, regularly check and clean your pet's ears during seasonal transitions (like early spring in March).

As temperatures fluctuate and humidity levels change, the ear environment becomes more hospitable to yeast and bacteria. This is especially true for pets spending time both indoors and outdoors in northern climates, where they move between heated homes and cold exteriors.

Using a veterinarian-approved ear cleaner monthly can prevent painful infections before they start. Look for dark discharge, unusual odor, or increased head shaking as early warning signs. This is particularly important for dogs with floppy ears or pets with allergies, as they're more susceptible to ear problems during these transitional weather periods.
